ACEC and Hamazkayin Boston launch "GORANI" ethnographic dance classes
Armenian traditional dance classes designed for children, teenagers, and adults

ACEC, July 18, 2024 .- The Armenian Cultural and Educational Center (ACEC) and the Armenian Educational and Cultural Society (Hamazkayin) of Boston launched a new cultural program; "Gorani" ethnographic dance classes with Instructor & Artistic Director Alex Avaneszadeh.
“Gorani” focuses on teaching dancers traditional Armenian dances from various Armenian regions and villages in current and historic Armenia. In understanding and learning about the various dances, Gorani educates its members about the dance styles of the various Armenian regions which are reflected in the diversity of Armenian traditional dance. Some sessions will also include learning Armenian folk songs that correspond to specific dances where song and dance are intertwined.
Classes and registration
Group classes for children, teens, and adults will be held at the ACEC, starting September 15th, for ten months (until June).
Children's groups will practice on Sundays, 1-4pm. Classes for adults will be held on weeknights (day TBD).
Registration deadline: August 31.
Alex Avaneszadeh, Instructor and Artistic Director
Alex has nearly a decade of experience in Armenian traditional dance. Over the years, he has immersed himself in the ethnographic dance scene in Armenia, particularly having spent significant time learning from the Karin Ethnographic Dance Ensemble under the late Gagik Ginosyan. Established in 2017, he co-founded the Lernazang Ensemble in Los Angeles (under the artistic direction of Natalie Kamajian and Armen Adamian), which is a music, song and dance collective that seeks to strengthen Armenian cultural heritage and ethnographic education in the diaspora. Alex has taught and given Armenian dance workshops to a multitude of Armenian schools, communities, and diaspora organizations across the eastern and western United States.
